Maclean wants to help Juneau grow

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Jill Maclean spent part of her first day on the job Friday as Juneau's Community Development Director on Action Line.

She was selected for the job this week following an assessment center where she competed with two other finalists.

She looks forward to helping the community grow.

Discussions are underway on the next comprehensive plan which she says will help to come up with a plan the community supports.

Maclean also wants to make the land use code work more effectively.  Rather than just  lifting language from other locations, she said  a "Juneau lens" should be on it, as she put it.  She says they'll need to make sure the language works for Juneau's climate, topography and lack of buildable lands so that people are not hamstrung unintentionally.

Maclean has worked as a senior planner with the department since 2015.  She came to Juneau from New Bedford, Massachusetts where she was the city planner.
