Newtok trio returns safely

Newtok, Alaska (KINY) Three seal hunters, one a juvenile, spent the night stuck on a sandbar Monday but returned home safely Tuesday, Alaska State Troopers reported.

A dispatch said Troopers received a report that Christopher Kassaiuli, 19, Noah Carl, 19, and a juvenile from Newtok had left the village to go seal hunting around 2 pm on October 23.  They were expected tor return that night but got stuck on a sandbar and had to wait until the tide returned to get loose and return home.  In the interim, the Rescue Coordination Center in Anchorage and the Coast Guard in Juneau began a search.  The Coast Guard launched a C-130 airport to search the coastline and potential drift locations at sea.  The trio were reported safe and sound just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
