Nine impaired drivers were taken off Juneau roads over the July 4th weekend, according to police.

The Juneau Police Department conducted extra patrols over the 2016 4th of July Holiday Weekend. Patrol officers were not allowed to take vacation time or attend training. Lt. David Campbell says every JPD officer capable of working, including Chief Johnson, worked in some capacity over the weekend. The holiday weekend was busy as predicted with 739 reported incidents.
In addition to the assigned officers, several officers worked as part of a grant to target impaired drivers, arresting and taking those nine impaired drivers off the streets of Juneau.
