Owner of derelict vessel in Gastineau Channel taking care of situation

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Docks and Harbors Department says the situation with a derelict vessel is under control now.

Harbormaster Dave Borg was a guest on Action Line Wednesday.  It said vessel sank just outside Aurora Harbor.  "It was floating up and down the channel and finally grounded right by the bridge. The owner of the vessel is actually being very proactive.  He's got it righted and floating now and he's being very responsive to us and the Coast Guard in taking care of the vessel."

The vessel was tied up to another boat in open water. Borg said it filled up with rain water and capsized.

The Coast Guard was alerted to the situation and responded Saturday afternoon.  It reported there was no pollution as a result.
