Permanent fund is healthy

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The State of Alaska will send out $1,100 to 640,000 Alaskans next week via the permanent fund dividend.

Department of Revenue Commissioner Sheldon Fisher said that over a half of a million people will get the check direct deposited this year. "The dividend check will be distributed on October 5th.  It is about half of what it would be but it is actually equal to the historical average."

Governor Bill Walker cut the dividend in  half, a move that was upheld by the courts this summer.  The Permanent Fund corporation will hold public meetings in Juneau tomorrow and Thursday.  Fisher said this year they had a very strong year in returns.  "The last few years have been very difficult in the market but this year they had an over 12.5% return, so it was very positive."

The Board does a regular report about the funds and take several asset classes.  The meetings, September 27-28 are open to the public.  They begin at 8:30 a.m. each day at 801 West 10th Street, Suite 302.
