Petersburg facility resumes fish processing

A Petersburg facility is once again processing fish after a light pink salmon run forced a hiatus this summer.

PETERSBURG, Alaska (AP) — A Petersburg facility is once again processing fish after a light pink salmon run forced a hiatus this summer.

KFSK-FM reports that Trident Seafoods workers who were temporarily transferred to another company facility on June 28 have returned to Petersburg.

Plant manager Dave Ohmer said the pink salmon run is expected to come in substantially below 30 million, so the company decided to put employees where they'd have the most work.

He said the facility stopped processing fish but continued to run accounting operations and provide ice and support.

    No workers lost their jobs.
