Phase Two of Aurora Harbor rebuild set to start up

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Work is scheduled to commence next week on phase two of the Aurora Harbor rebuild project.

CBJ Docks and Harbors Department Deputy Engineer Erich Shaal was among the guests on Action Line Wednesday.  He said the contractor, Northern Construction Services of Junction City, Oregon, is mobilizing next week.  Phase Two will commence with demolition work.  "They're already fabricating floats at their Oregon facility.  They're actually doing the whole show themselves.  They've had experience building floats for us in phase one and they've decided to branch out and be their own float installer."

Shaal described exactly where phase two work will take place/  "It's the center of the harbor so its the E, F and G floats.  It's where the boat shelters are."

The work is scheduled for completion by the end of April," he said.

One point five million dollars is  for Phase Three work which will take place in the northern end of the harbor with voter approval earlier this month for the extension of the temporary one percent sales tax.
