Public Safety building coming down

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ urged caution around the construction site on Whittier Street.

    Demolition is underway of the former Public Safety Building.  Coogan Construction, the contractor for the City and Borough of Juneau, expects to have the above ground structure totally demolished within the next year.

    Work continues Monday thru Saturday from 7 am to 5 pm.

    Once the above-ground structure is removed, the next task is to remove the concrete footings and prepare the site to install a temporary asphalt parking lot.  The project is on scheduled to be complete at the beginning of August.

    CBJ officials urged people to use caution and to never enter a construction zone.
