It’s time to dust off your Hawaiian shirts and ugliest Christmas sweaters. It's Christmas in July from the Juneau Rotaract Club, Saturday from 8pm to midnight at the Hangar Ballroom.

Take a photo with Santa, enter in the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, bid on some amazing items in the silent and live auction, and dance the night away.

Juneau Rotaract's Tamsen Peeples and Brita Tonnessen with AWARE were guests on Capital Chat Wednesday.

According to Tamsen, "It's going to be a major fundraiser for us, but also for the Juneau AWARE Shelter."

Brita provided details on AWARE, explaining that it's much more than a shelter.

"AWARE is "Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies," and we have a free and confidential crisis line in addition to our shelter," stated Tonnessen. "Many of you might know that we have transitional housing, the state accredited batter intervention program called the Juneau Choice and Accountability Program, and a phenomenal children's program with counselors, care, and advocates. We also have a large prevention team with Be the Change, Teamtopia last year, and Boys on the Run and Girls on the Run. Be on the look-out, because Boys and Girls on the Run will have a coach's training coming up soon. We have six positions available at AWARE, and then we have our 40-hour advocacy training that's coming up, probably in September."

Tickets are $15 from Rotaract members or the JAHC, $20 at the door, and there’s one free drink with admission. Doors open at 8 and the Ugly Sweater Contest and live auction start at 9:30. This event is for adults 21 and over.
