Shakespearean activities to celebrate First Folio taking place around Juneau.

An arts update was provided on Capital Chat Thursday.

Nancy DeCherney of the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council describing the coming month as "an orgy of Shakespeare."

"It's a month of just Shakespeare, Shakespeare, Shakespeare," DeCherney explained. "Next Monday, we're doing All's Well That Ends Well at the JACC, and we'll have popcorn and snacks. Our block party is on First Friday, and it's supposed to be gorgeous. So, we'll probably be having it on the plaza outside the museum. At the museum, they're having special events related to the folio, so if you're out and about on Friday night, stop in there. Extended hours, refreshments, and they read, too. They'll be open until 10:00 p.m. doing Macbeth."

The folio referred to by DeCherney is a 1623 book titled First Folio, which contains the first known source of 18 Shakespeare plays, including Macbeth and The Tempest. The book is currently at the Alaska State Libraries, Archives and Museums building in Juneau on a tour of all 50 states - plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. The First Folio will be leaving Juneau on August 24th for Boulder, Colorado.
