Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - The markets could be dwindling for recyclable products in Sitka.
The Mayor of the City and Borough of Sitka, Matt Hunter, told his his colleagues at their Assembly meeting last week that China has changed policy and will no longer accept 24 varieties of recyclables. They are one of the main purchasers of recyclable products produced in Sitka.
The policy change would affect paper, plastics, and cardboard products. The city's recycling contractor said they should know more in November.
Mayor Hunter told the Assembly that China no longer wants to be the dumping ground for the entire planet.
