Juneau, AK (KINY) - The Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce revealed that they faced a data security error that could have resulted in the sharing of personal and financial information.
Currently, the Sitka Chamber do not believe that any data was compromised, but it was a serious issue that resulted in the termination of one employee.
According to a statement on the matter, this happened on June 28th during a competitive bid process of the Convention and Visitors Contract RFP with the City of Sitka. They have stated that this will have an impact on the Visit Sitka Contract negotiations. Information about the incident was forwarded to the City Attorney.
As a result of this issue, the Sitka Chamber say that they will continue to provide convention, visitor services, and marketing beyond the end date of their contract of June 30th in a good faith effort for the community of Sitka and partner businesses. The Chamber's goal is to increase the level of visitors coming into Sitka through the Visit Sitka effort. They stated that they will continue to utilize and maximize the effectiveness of the Visitor Enhancement Funds.
Steps are being immediately taken to increase data security.
