Skagway, Alaska (KINY) Housing, the community drug problem, and road improvements were among the items discussed when the Skagway Assembly met January 18.
Skagway officials said they will hold another town meeting on the opioid problem. Only four people from the public attended one held on January 8th.
A march to Skagway City H all was held January 20 to fight for women's equality.
Housing continues to be an issue and the Garden City RV park is a big housing provider for seasonal workers. Mayor Monica Carlson said they are doing all they can to get it ready this spring, "We understand the public's concerns and hopefully we will have a satisfactory solution for you soon."
Skagway is also considering improvements for parking and traffic flow downtown in the summer months.
They also voted to sunset the Senior Center Committee. Voters approved a $6 million bond issue in 2016 to
build the senior center and housing facility.
Bids on State Street are expected to go out in summer and construction in late Summer. $10.5 million is expected to
be spent over the next two summers.
