Stand for Salmon will have public hearings

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) A series of hearings will be held to give the public a chance to comment on ballot initiative one.

Supporters said the initiative would protect Alaska salmon.  Opponents said it would hinder resource development and growth.

The first hearing is scheduled for September 7th in Juneau.  Additional hearings will be held in Kotzebue, Nome, Anchorage, Sitka, Fairbanks, Bethel, and Dillingham.  A statewide teleconference only session is also in the works.

State law calls for at least two public hearings in each Alaska judicial district on a scheduled ballot initiative. Each hearing is to include written or oral testimony of one supporter of the initiative and one opponent.
