Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is poised to being work on Egan Drive between the bridge intersection at 10th Street and Main Street downtown.
Southcoast Region Director Lance Mearig said on Action Line Monday that they are still in the design stage. In addition to design, they are working on acquiring right of way properties that they need to construct the project. The project will include wider sidewalks and bike lanes and a complete repaving of the roadway.
Mearig said the project should start late this fall and go into next season.
Aurah Landeau, a public information officer for the department, said the work will be done in three parts. The bridge intersection at 10th Street will be one part. Another part will be the intersection at Main and Egan. The third part wille that area in between the intersections.
She said the department will make sure access is flowing through the entire corridor. Landeau said there will be a lot of consideration on impacts to residents and to tourism businesses and traffic. She said the construction plan will have stipulations on how many lanes will go through the area.
