Sullivan in contact with GOP convention organizers

The other two members of Alaska's all Republican congressional delegation - Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Rep. Don Young - both plan to be in Alaska during the event.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan could have a speaking role at next week's national Republican convention.

A spokesman for Alaska's junior senator on Wednesday said Sullivan has been in contact with event organizers but a potential speaking role hasn't yet been confirmed.

Sullivan is the lone member of Alaska's all Republican congressional delegation planning to attend the convention in his native Ohio. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Rep. Don Young both plan to be in Alaska during the event.

Sullivan was an assistant Secretary of State under President George W. Bush.

He is a former state attorney general and Natural Resources commissioner who has been vocal about pushing back against federal overreach. He's also a Marine Corps reservist and has been outspoken on veterans' issues.

He was elected to the Senate in 2014 after defeating Democratic Sen. Mark Begich.
