Summer Dungeness Crab Violation Update

    Juneau, AK (KINY) - Two of the three men caught fishing over the vessel limit for dungeness crab over the summer have been fined by the Petersburg District Court.

    Two of the three men caught fishing over the vessel limit for dungeness crab over the summer have been fined by the Petersburg District Court.

    On October 3rd, co-defendant Colin Kuamoo, pled no contest in the Petersburg district court to one count of operating an over limit of commercial Dungeness crab gear. He was fined $1500 and ordered to forfeit $812.20 worth of illegally taken crab.

    It was a similar situation on October 10th for Donald R. Peeler, who also pled no contest in the Petersburg district court to one count of operating an over limit of commercial dungeness crab gear. He too was fined $1500 and ordered to forfeit $812.20 worth of illegally taken crab.

    The case involving the final defendant,  James "Andy" Knight, is scheduled for trial.

    14 Pots and 1,749lbs of dungeness crab valued at $4,609.70 were seized from their vessel on June 17th in Gambier Bay.
