Suspect wounded after shooting at police dog during chase

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A suspect has been wounded and a police dog was shot dead during a chase near Palmer.

    Anchorage television station KTVA reports the incident began just after 5 a.m. Sunday when a Palmer police officer attempted to pull over a car.

    The driver fled, and the chase continued onto the Glenn Highway, where an Alaska State Trooper joined the pursuit.

    The driver pulled into a driveway and fled on foot into the woods.

    Troopers say the suspect fired several times at the dog during the chase.

    The two officers returned fire and the suspect was hit in the shoulder.
