Hoonah, Alaska (KINY) Rough seas and winds nearly submerged a 20 foot Boston whaler with two Hoonah men on board Saturday night.
A dispatch from Alaska State Troopers said volunteers from Hoonah searched and located the two men after the two men went hunting in Icy Straits. The motor quit and the boat was stranded near shore with darkness quickly approaching. The dispatch also reported that the vessel became partially swamped and the men did not have basic survival gear.
The dispatch went onto report that one of the men suffered from symptoms of hypothermia and the cell phone signal also went out before help could arrive.
The volunteer vessel Thor Too transported the men to shore. Troopers said alcohol was a suspected factor in the incident.
