Troopers rescue lost hikers by locating cell phone

    Troopers were able to get a positive location on a cell phone of one of the hikers through the Juneau 911 system.

    Two out of state hikers near the Mendenhall Glacier on West Glacier Trail in Juneau were rescued Thursday night.

    Alaska State Troopers received the report from the United States Forest Service that Juli Keown (27 of Oregon) and Cynthia Corbin (25 of Texas) had lost the trial on their return from the glacier.

    AST was able to get a positive location on a cell phone of one of the hikers through the Juneau 911 system.   

    Searchers from Capital City Fire and Rescue and Juneau Mountain Rescue responded and found the hikers at approximately 9:15 p.m.  

    Both hikers were returned to the trail head.
