Two hikers missing

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) The National Park Service is looking for two hikers who did not meet a scheduled air taxi pickup within Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

Authorities said the hikers were also scheduled to make two pre-planned satellite phone calls to their air taxi operator that they also missed.  The couple from Missouri were dropped off at the park on June 22 at Sanford Glacier Airstrip.

The couple planned to take a six day backpacking trip near Mount Drum.  They were scheduled to be at the pick up point on Wednesday.

The park service said five aircraft and 27 people were part of the search party.  They are looking via air and ground.
