Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The University of Alaska Southeast has forged an agreement with the Coast Guard aimed at allowing students to become Coast Guard Officers.
Chancellor Rick Caulfield said on Action Line this week that the agreement is dubbed "The College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative."
He said it allows those working on a bachelor's degree to receive full tuition and fees for their junior and senior years. If successful in that program, the chancellor said students can then proceed to officer candidate school with the Coast Guard.
The chancellor said its a great opportunity to become a commissioned Coast Guard officer and take a leadership role with the organization.
