US Coast Guard Center Stage At A Veterna's Ceremony in Juneau

Juneau, AK (KINY)-A Veteran's Day ceremony at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center Saturday featured Coast Guard Captain Shannon Greene. The event was sponsored by American Legion Post 25.

She talked about appreciating the Coast Guard's special relationship with Alaska, that goes back to the day Alaska became part of the United States.  Greene said it was a USCG Cutter, The Lincoln, who brought the first US representatives to Sitka to take over Russia's interest in Alaska 150 years ago this year.

One of the Veterans in the audience was Susan Macaulay.  Macaulay is often at Juneau activities, she is very engaged in community events all year.  Her military career was ended because of a car accident that causes her to use a wheelchair today.  She treasures her time in the Air Force and says she would have been in for life if circumstances were different.

Macaulay says she only regained the abilities she did because of the medical care she received at the VA, an organization that funded 7 months of rehab when private insurance would only have paid for 2 months.
