US Coast Guard rescues female

    Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) Coast Guard officials said the woman felt ill on a cruise liner Friday.

    A 45-foot fast response medium crew from Coast Guard Station Ketchikan medevaced the 71 year old female who suffered stroke like symptoms and transported her to Bar Harbor and awaiting EMS crews.

    The request came to Coast Guard sector Juneau Friday night at 9 pm from the ship Nieuw Amsterdam.  The coast guard boat made contact with the ship in Revillagigado Channel, and picked up the patient, a medical assistant, and her husband.

    Petty Officer 2nd Class Cody Mitchell said they were unsure of the patient's condition, "Excellent communication among the captain and crew of Nieuw Amsterdam and ourselves allowed us to get this woman off the ship and to the medical care she needed as quickly as possible."
