Winter storm warning issued

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning this morning for Juneau for tonight and Friday.

Meteorologist Brian Bezemek said they expect 8-12 inches of snow to fall over a 24 hour period beginning Thursday night.  "A weather system will come in without enough cold air to spread snow into the northern part of the Panhandle through tonight and most of tomorrow as well."

He said the Juneau area can expect four inches by the Friday morning commute.  "Another four to five inches will come in through Friday before the snow tapers off around 9 pm."

Bezemek said we have high confidence that the area will receive over six inches in 12 hours or close to a foot of snow in 24 hours, "Just drive safe.  We expect a lot of snow falling late tonight through tomorrow.  There will be a lot of snow on the roads, take the extra time and drive safe."
