Winter storm warning issued

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Juneau beginning at 12 noon on Friday and running until 5 am Saturday.

Meteorologist Aaron Jacobs said up to eight inches of snow is expected in Juneau and northern parts of the Panhandle.  Three to five inches were forecast to fall in southern areas of the region.  Ketchikan is part of a snow advisory.

Jacobs said the worst of the conditions will be Friday night.  He said warmer air is headed to the region Saturday and the precipitation should change to rain.

Juneau remains well below the average snowfall amounts so far this winter, "It will get us closer to normal but we are still below the norm.  It'll be a quick shot of precipitation.  After the snow falls Friday, it will warm up and turn to rain across the majority of the panhandle.  The rain will continue into Sunday."
