Artist Awards announced by Juneau Community Foundation

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Community Foundation announced its Individual Artist Awards for 2021 on Action Line.

    Program Director Jamie Waste made the announcement.

    He said four artists will each receive $2,500 to support their work.

    Rachael Juzeler is creating a series of kilned glass and mosaic artworks entitled "Glaciers & Tributaries."

    Allison Holtkamp Waid is producing a podcast called "Snowy Days."

    Mary McEwen is working on a weaving arts project that involves producing a series of large-scale pieces using locally reclaimed textiles.

    Barbara Craver's project is titled "Language Revitalization Portraits."  It consists of three portrait paintings of people involved with Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian language revitalization. 

    The grant program debuted in 2020.

    Since then, $30,000 in awards have gone to twelve recipients.

    Past award recipients include Lily Hope, Erin Heist, Frank Katasse, Annie Bartholomew, Crystal Cudworth, MK MacNaughton, Christina Apathy, and Ben Huff.  

    The funding for the awards comes from the foundation's Arts Vibrancy Endowment.
