Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Assembly will hold a public hearing at the Jun. 12 Regular Assembly Meeting on a proposed registration program for short-term rental operators.
At its Mar. 1 Finance Committee meeting, the Assembly received an update on the use of short-term rentals in Juneau.
Short-term rentals are more commonly thought of as apartments and houses that can be rented for brief periods of time over platforms like Airbnb and VRBO.
The update identified several ongoing challenges in communicating with rental operators, ensuring fair and equitable sales tax compliance, and measuring the role of short-term rentals in the city economy.
As a result, CBJ staff are recommending a no-cost registration requirement for short-term rental operators in order to provide better information to the Assembly and community on the use of short-term rentals in Juneau.
