Downtown Juneau sees march from Marine Park to the bridge

Marchers begin their route through downtown Juneau on Saturday from Marine Park.

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - There was a massive march and peaceful protest through downtown Juneau on Saturday.

The march was organized under the banner of Juneau is not Immune - Silenced no More. The crowd was estimated in excess of 500 marchers and included banners supporting Black Lives Matter.

The group met at Marine Park and marched peacefully to the Juneau Douglas Bridge and back.

Traffic was interrupted for a short time on Egan Drive after the marchers departed the sidewalks they were using to reach the other side of the street.

Marches have sprung up across the country in recent days in the wake of the death of a black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Four Minneapolis Police officers have been charged in his death.
