Kelly looking to move from School Board to Assembly

Assembly candidate and school board member Paul Kelly

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Paul Kelly is looking to serve on the Assembly after serving three years on the Juneau School Board.

He is seeking the Assembly District One seat.  He was asked why he decided to run for the Assembly instead of seeking re-election to the School Board.

"I feel the longer I've lived here, the more my interests have expanded.  Public education is still very important to me and, in fact, it's one of my top three priorities."

Kelly talked about the other priorities he wants to focus on.  "I want to work on trying to reduce homelessness,  I want to work on trying to help our economy rebuild after the COVID pandemic and I think I would have more say in what we do in my capacity as an Assembly member."

Kelly was elected to the school board three years ago.

He works as an analyst/programmer for the State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.  He's been in Juneau for four years after spending 33 years in Anchorage where he was born.

Also seeking the District One seat are Barbara Blake and Troy Wuyts-Smith.
