NWS says 'great' weather all across Southeast this weekend

Sunshine and blue skies are expected for much of Southeast Alaska this weekend.

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The National Weather Service in Juneau is saying conditions are looking great in Southeast all throughout the weekend.

Aside from a few scattered showers across the far south including Ketchikan and Prince of Wales today into Saturday, it looks like temperatures increase toward Memorial Day.

Wes Adkins, the lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Juneau, said, "We've got some great weather ahead for this holiday weekend. We are looking at temperatures in the Northern Panhandle getting towards 70 degrees, and eclipsing 70 degrees, particularly around the Juneau area and Haines area as we get closer to Memorial Day itself. Right now, we've got some cooler conditions across the far south around Ketchikan and Prince of Wales Island. But, we are looking for those temperatures to kind of rebound into the 60s once scattered showers get done here on Saturday. So we are looking at better conditions for the Southern Panhandle."

Weather is going to be great in the Central Panhandle of Southeast, Adkins added.

"The Central Panhandle, like Wrangell, Petersburg and Sitka, they will be cooler, but they'll eventually even get into the 60s as well," Adkins said. "Although, we have some small craft advisories going up through Lynn Canal for some northerlies, but other than that, it looks like pretty nice sailing weather."

The NWS also added that if you head out over the water, it will be much cooler, so dress accordingly.
