Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The JAHC's outdoor markets are a breath of fresh air, featuring new and esteemed artists alike.
Traci Ferguson-Hayes is the JAHC's Marketing Manager. She talked to News of the North about their Mother's Day fresh air market held Saturday.
"This fresh air market is so much fun. We, unfortunately, didn't get any food trucks, however, we have a great lineup of musicians. So there's live music," she said. "There's been numerous new vendors who've signed up. Really great, happy about, and easy to work with. And then, some of our old favorites."
She added they are always on the lookout for emerging artists.
"We really love these markets. It's kind of just another way to bring the community together. Just to get the word out about all of the amazing vendors and artists that we have here in Juneau," she said. "We try to reach out to new artists as much as we possibly can. Some of our regular artists will even let us know when they hear about a new artist."
Now that the cruise ships are in town, Ferguson-Hayes noted that they get a mix of tourists and locals shopping, especially on a partially-sunny day like this Saturday.
The last chance to apply to be a First Friday artist/monthly artist for the JAHC's upcoming gallery season is coming up on Monday, May 15.
"We try to get newer up-and-coming artists who haven't showcased here or in the past around Juneau. So we really try to promote up-and-coming, newer artists who are maybe just starting out their gallery seasoning," Ferguson-Hayes shared. "And if you don't have enough to fill all the walls, you can collaborate with another artist and create a shared space."

The gallery series selections will be announced at the end of June.
Ferguson-Hayes also added that the same piano series that performed earlier this year in March will be coming back on June 9 and June 30. She emphasized that the JAHC interacts with the arts on a higher level than their indoor shop and outdoor markets through interactive performances like this concert series.
Ferguson-Hayes said to stay tuned on their social media and news outlets for an upcoming celebration this summer.
"The JAHC is having their 50th anniversary on July 27th. We are in the midst of planning a big celebration," she shared.
If a food truck, vendor, or musician wants to participate in next month's outdoor market, they should email info@jahc.org or call (907) 586-2787.
"Our next fresh air market is scheduled for June 24th, and that's again, right here outside of the JAHC. It's going to be the same time, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.," Ferguson-Hayes said.
The JAHC's fresh air markets will reoccur in June, July, August, and September. They are also planning to bring back their Pumpkin Spice Market this October. It saw its first debut last fall.
