Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - A 24-year-old man was medevaced off a fishing vessel near Baranof Island on Saturday morning.

Coast Guard Air Station Sitka said Juneau watchstanders learned a crewmember aboard the Carol D was suffering from medical complications due to an infected tooth.

The poor weather conditions delayed the rescue.  Officials said winds exceeded 20 knots and visibility was limited to two to four nautical miles.

The vessel pulled into Snipe Bay to avoid the heavy weather and the helicopter was sent early Saturday to pick up the patient.

He was flown to Sitka for further medical care.
